The Course
Everything the New Jersey exam covers, in one 75-hour course
New Jersey requires every future real estate salesperson to complete a 75-hour pre-licensing course at a school approved by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission before taking the state licensing exam. Our course is fully approved and walks you through every subject you will be tested on, plus the practical knowledge you need on day one of your new career.

What you will learn
- New Jersey real estate license law and Commission rules
- Agency, brokerage, and ethics
- Contracts and listing agreements
- Forms of property ownership
- Landlord and tenant law
- Deeds and title transfers
- Fair housing and anti-discrimination laws
- Real estate finance and mortgages
- Appraisals and market analysis
- Closing procedures and title practices
New Jersey is a turf state, which means there is no salesperson license reciprocity with any other state. Everyone who wants to sell real estate in New Jersey completes this same 75-hour course.
Your Path to a License
How to become a licensed New Jersey real estate salesperson
Step 1: Check that you qualify
You must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Step 2: Complete the 75-hour course
Finish all 75 hours of instruction at our New Jersey Real Estate Commission approved school, online or on live Zoom.
Step 3: Pass the school final exam
Score at least 70% on the school exam. Once you pass, a certificate is issued that allows you to move on to the state exam.
Step 4: We submit your eligibility to PSI
Your school electronically submits your eligibility to PSI. This step has to happen before you can register for the state exam.
Step 5: Pass the New Jersey state exam
Register and test through PSI. The exam is 110 multiple-choice questions, 80 national and 30 New Jersey specific, with a four-hour time limit. You need 70% to pass, and each attempt costs $45. The New Jersey portion is where most test-takers struggle, so we build your prep around it.
Step 6: Complete fingerprinting and background check
Schedule fingerprinting and a background check through IdentoGO so the Commission can confirm your eligibility.
Step 7: Find a sponsoring broker and apply
Line up a sponsoring broker, submit your application to the New Jersey Real Estate Commission, and once approved your license is issued. You are ready to start selling.
